Today was the day we determined to hike "Path of the Gods". This is a world famous hike that can be adapted in several ways. We opted to start in Bomerano and end in Nocelle, avoiding the 1700 steps that takes you down to Positano. Because we parked our car in Bomerano, we opted for an out and back hike instead of a point to point which is what most people do. Many people go all the way to Positano and then take the bus back to their car. However, the bus ride along the Amalfi Coast sounded like a really bad idea to us and we opted to return to our car on foot. We drove to the trail-head the long way but the quick way, that is to say we avoided the Amalfi Coast. It was a beautiful drive yesterday but we did not need a repeat. On the way, we stopped at Pimonte for a coffee and a little something to eat. If you want something besides pastry for breakfast, you are destined for pizza. That's about it. So pizza it was. None of us were up for sugar. Pimonte is a gorgeous little town, with towering mountains all around. Reminded me a little bit of some of the villages in Switzerland except the mountains are covered with green like Hawaii. The drive to the trail-head was breathtaking. After arriving and missing our turns a few times, we finally found a place to park and were on our way.
Nothing and I mean nothing can prepare you for the beauty before you on this hike. The vista is expansive and unfolds in colors of green, towering mountains and the sparking turquoise sea far below. It is magnificent. We stopped a lot as we hiked, taking pictures and marveling at the beauty. We arrived at Nocelle, 3.9 miles and 2.5 hours later. The little cafeteria in Nocelle where we stopped and had something to drink and eat was so delicious. Typical Italian sandwiches with tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and olive oil - so simple and yet food that tasted like one of the best things you've ever eaten. After lunch, we were back on the trail and we moved much quicker hiking back. Took us just a little over hour and a half to return. My Garmin said we had an elevation gain of 1772 feet. The hike wasn't terribly difficult but it was technical with lots of rocky climbing and the up and down was pretty relentless.
Back in the car and headed back to our BnB. An hour later and glad to be back, we peeled off our sweaty clothes in gratitude. I had dressed completely wrong. You would think I was a novice! I had literally soaked through everything, including my underwear and bra. A shower and dry clothes felt like a gift.
David and I just hung out for a couple hours while Avi chatted with his girl friend and then we headed into town for dinner. We landed at the Ristorante de Pescatore. What a treat. Some of the best food we've ever eaten in our entire lives.
Sometimes you just can't have a more perfect day. This was one of those.
