We packed up this morning and left our Air BnB in Cinisi. Found a new location in San Vito Lo Cabo that we reserved for the next two nights. Cinisi is about 60 min from San Vito Lo Cabo. Part of the drive is done on the main freeway which is a nice road. The second half of the drive is smaller and rougher highways. We really wanted to spend a day at the beach. We had a quick cup of coffee in Terrasini and got on the road. The drive was nice, interspersed with amazing vistas of the water and the mountains. Much of this area is very dry. We arrived at San Vito Lo Cabo and my first thoughts were that much of the area reminded somewhat of Arizona. The area has gigantic stunning mountain outcrops that are severe and beautiful. We found our Air BnB and got checked in. It is very humble and we paid a lot of money for it but it will work and at this point, no complaining will be done.
We headed to the beach and had some pizza and coffee by the water and David and Avi immediately headed out to swim. I hung on the beach for a while as the wind was blowing and it was raining lightly and I wasn't sure I wanted to be wet. But the rain stopped finally and I headed in too. The water is wonderful. Beautiful, clean and just cool enough to be refreshing. The beach has silken sand and you can go out forever without being over your head. Body surfing is great fun as it is not too rough. We hung out in the water for a couple hours. The rain was starting back up and we decided to drive to the Medieval Town of Erice for the rest of the afternoon. We didn't want to sit in the room and it seemed like a better choice.
Erice is about 60 min from San Vito Lo Cabo and much of this is a throw-up road. David is in race car driver mode because he is driving an automatic and the curvy roads brings this out in him. I had to plead for mercy as I feared losing my lunch. The rain continued to fall harder as we drove up the mountain. When we arrived, the wind was blowing and the rain stopped for a bit but it was cold. First time I have wanted a jacket since we have been here. And of course, my jacket was in the room. We walked around the Medieval Town for a bit and looked at buildings built in Medieval times. Stopped and had some dessert and coffee. I am still only eating a bite of dessert here and there but I've had so much bread, it will be a struggle to get back on my program when I get home. If you don't eat bread, you will starve here. Unless you cook, you cannot get by without eating pizza.
After we enjoyed the town for a bit, the rain was coming down hard again. We headed back to our car and drove back. It was time for dinner and we went into town. What a charming area. Several streets are pedestrian only and they are filled with every kind of restaurant you can imagine. Avi really wanted a calzone so we had pizza yet again. I don't know if I'm going to want pizza for months when I get home. After we finished dinner, we realized that we could not remember where we had parked. All three of us were so distracted when we got out of our car that we could not remember what we were seeing when we got out. We wandered the streets for 30-45 minutes trying to retrace our steps and between the three of us, we finally found it. Good grief.
I'm headed to bed.
